How to go longer between shampoos

If there was just ONE thing you could do to have healthier more manageable hair it would easily be to shampoo your hair less.  I’m not talking about walking around with dirty oily hair but there are definitely some tricks that will let you go longer between shampoos.  The benefits are that you will save your self tons of time blow drying that hair AND your hair will be healthier as a result.

So how do you do it?  Simple.  Keep scrolling…

Kiss Silicone and Oils Goodbye!

I am telling you that I have had to wash my hair every day for my entire life until I came across a product line that isn’t powered by silicones and oils (like every other product in the market for the past 30 years).  The silicone and oils work because they make the hair soft (yay!) but then the minute you walk outside all of the dirt and pollutants in the air cling to the hair and make it dirty (boo!).  This mean that your soft hair feels “oily” at the end of the day and you just *have* to wash it again which is drying and then you feel like it needs more oil.

And round and round we go.  I will spare you the scientific explanation of the science of Living Proof but TRUST me that when you switch ALL of your products over you will immediately be able to go longer and longer between shampoos.  Do it.  You will NOT be sorry.

Work out a bunch?  Just rinse!

I’m serious.  Just because you got sweaty doesn’t mean you need a full shampoo.  If you insist on wetting your hair post workout just rinse it and give it a little conditioner on the ends!  Chances are you are only washing out of habit.  It’s even possible you can get away with a little Dry Shampoo and a blow dryer!

Give your bed head a chance

You know those days when you wake up and look at your hair and think “there is no recovering from this” …I bet you can.  I promise if you put a little dry shampoo on it and flip it upside down and blow dry it – you might be surprised how much style memory your hair has.  Especially if you are using good products.  They will reactivate with a little heat and voila – no shampoo necessary.

Do a half head shampoo

My mom taught me this one years ago – moms know best right?  You can save major time by just washing the top third of your hair.  Simply section out the top (usually a little less than half  – remember the goal is less shampoo and less damage) and put the bottom section in a bun.  Shampoo it leaning over in the sink and you will probably buy yourself 2 more days before you have to do the entire head!

When I can go longer between shampoos I find that I am more willing to put in the effort and use the right products, do a proper blow out and style it because it will last me almost a week!  Give it a try.  You will have more time, your hair will be healthier and you will have more good hair days.

I’m dying to know what your tricks are for extending the life of your shampoo?

I put dry shampoo in at night and wrap hair in a bun. It really seems to work better than applying it the next morning. That next day, a few shots of Living Proof Dry Volume Blast and I can make a great braid or ponytail!
